Home Remedies for Leukorrhea (Vaginal Discharge)

Leukorrhea is a common problem among women that means there is a thin or somewhat like thick, whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge that probably occurs between menstruation periods or during pregnancy and usually it happens from a few days to weeks.

Women always consider this problem as a normal thing as it does not give any side effects, irritation, discomfort, odor and itching. Leukorrhea has the main reason of hormonal changes, specially increasing in estrogen hormone.

Vaginal infections can also leucorrhea so it means the vaginal discharge would be yellow or green in color. Other factors depended upon vaginal discharge may be due to the unhygienic conditions like if  the tampon left for too long time inside the vagina, anemia and diabetes. Other than that, injury or trauma to the vagina can also cause leucorrhea.

If you notice that the vaginal condition is getting too much critical so you should have to consult your doctor. There are many over-the-counter medicines available in the drug stores for treating the leucorrhea but these medicines can cause side effects later. So if you want then you can try out some natural home remedies that are very much simple to do and have not any side effects.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar kills the bacteria present in vagina and balances the natural pH level. It has antiseptic and acidic properties due to which it helps to restore the acidic quality of the vaginal flora and thus eliminate the vaginal odor.
  • Take equal amounts of distilled water, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and mix them thoroughly. Use this solution to wash your vagina twice a day.
  • You can mix two tbsp. of raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink this water once daily.

2. Fenugreek Seeds
Fenugreek seeds also help to maintain the normal pH level in the vagina and it also affects the estrogen levels. Fenugreek seed is called as a natural immune booster.
  • Soak one tsp of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Strain the water in the next morning then add one-half tsp of honey in it. Drink this water on an empty stomach.
  • In a cup of water, boil two tsp of fenugreek seeds for about 30 minutes. Strain and allow it to cool. Use this water to wash your vagina for four times daily.

3. Indian Gooseberry
Indian gooseberry is also commonly called as “amla”. It contains anti-infection properties that are extremely beneficial for vaginal health. Indian gooseberry is rich in vitamin C that is useful for the immune system and helps your body to fight against the problem.
  • Make a thick paste by adding two tsp of Indian gooseberry powder and enough amount honey. Apply this mixture daily for two times about a week.
  • Another thing you can do is boil one tsp of dried Indian gooseberry root powder in one cup of water and keep it for boiling until it becomes to half. Now add little amount of sugar or honey then drink it on an empty stomach every morning.

4. Bananas
Bananas are really very good home remedy for leucorrhea. It also gives relief to the digestive disturbances.
  • Eat two overripe bananas daily to help control the leucorrhea.
  • You can also mix two tbsp. of banana flower juice and two tsp of powdered palmyrah candy to take once daily.

5. Fig
Fig is considered to be a good remedy for leucorrhea according to the Ayurveda. Fig contains a laxative effect that helps in removing the toxins and waste materials out of the body.
  • Soak three dried figs in a cup of water overnight. In the next morning, blend the soaked figs in water then drink on an empty stomach.
  • You can also grind the equal amounts of the bark of the fig and banyan tree into a thin powder. Mix one tbsp. of this fine powder and two cups of water. Use this solution to wash your vagina.

6. Cranberry
Cranberries contain antifungal, antioxidant and antibiotic properties that help to prevent the bacteria from attaching to the wall of the vagina and fight against the leucorrhea.
  • Drink one glass of unsweetened cranberry juice three times daily until you see the problem is gone.
  • If you do not get the cranberry juice then you can also take cranberry tablets but first consult your doctor for the correct dosage.

7. Okra
Okra is commonly known as “lady’s finger” which is very much beneficial for treating the leucorrhea. It is mucilaginous in nature so that it helps to remove the mucous from your system, therefore reduces the vaginal discharge.
  • Take 100g of okras, wash and cut them into small pieces.
  • Boil the okra pieces in a half liter of water for about 20 minutes until the water is reduced to half.
  • Strain the water and divide this solution into three parts.
  • Take one part of this solution with honey three times daily.
  • Follow the remedy until the problem is resolved.

8. Indian Lilac
Indian lilac is known as neem or margosa and it is effective for treating the vaginal odor with leucorrhea. Its antiseptic properties help fight off the vaginal infection and it also reduces the itching and other discomforts related with leucorrhea.
  • Take a handful of neem leaves in water and boil it then strain the solution and allow it to cool. Use this solution to wash the vaginal area once daily for few weeks.
  • Dry roast a handful of Indian lilac leaves in a pan. Allow the roasted leaves to cool and crush them to make a fine powder. Mix two tsp of this powder with water to make a paste. Apply this paste into your vagina and surrounding areas. Do this remedy two times daily.

9. Pomegranate
Pomegranate has a strong healing properties and medicinal properties that are useful in the treatment of leucorrhea. The fruit and its leaves both can be used for this purpose.
  • Extract the fresh juice from pomegranate and drink one glass daily approximately for one month.
  • Alternatively, grind 30 fresh pomegranate leaves and 10 black peppercorns. Mix them to make a paste by adding half a glass of water. Strain and drink it two times daily for few weeks.
  • Dry the rind of the pomegranate and grind it into a powder. Mix one tbsp. of grinded powder in two cups of water. Use this solution as a vaginal douche.

10. Saffron
Saffron has antiseptic and antioxidant properties which is helpful to treat the leucorrhea. Saffron is a natural immune booster and speed up the recovery.
  • Take one tsp of saffron and boil in one-fourth cup of water until the water is reduced to one tablespoon.
  • Divide this solution into three equal portions.
  • Mix one portion with an equal amount of water.
  • Drink this solution three times daily.

Additional Tips
  • Wash your undergarments with an antibiotic solution and dry them under the sunlight.
  • Avoid wear tight and dirty panties.
  • Change your undergarment at least three times a day.
  • Try to wear a panty liner.
  • Avoid oily and dried foods.
  • Increase the fluid intake to help flush out the toxic materials from the body.
  • Try to do some light exercises and yoga daily.
