Home Remedies for Vaginal Cysts
If a lump or semi-solid tissue develop along the walls of the vagina is called a vaginal cyst, it is usually appear near to the opening of the vagina. Vaginal cysts differ in size from small as pea to large as an orange. When the duct or gland of the vagina becomes clogged that causes the liquid then it is developed into the vaginal cysts. So there are four different types of vaginal cysts that are as follows.
- Inclusion cysts are very small in size and just located in the lower back of the vaginal wall.
- Bartholin’s gland cysts are filled with liquid that is found on one of the Bartholin’s glands.
- Gartner’s duct cysts are developed when in the embryo, ducts do not disappear after the delivery of a baby.
- Mullerian cysts develop from the vaginal area left behind when a baby is developed.
Vaginal cyst has a risk of cancer and at the initial stage, it does not cause any discomfort but during the pelvic examination, cysts are discovered. Treatment of the vaginal cysts is needed only when you feel discomfort or pain as the size is large or any infection is found in that area. Symptoms are like a soft lump feels in the vaginal wall, a protrusion from the vagina, uncomfortable feeling during the intercourse and difficulty while inserting the tampons.
If you are feeling so much pain or discomfort so you can try simple and effective home remedies. These remedies can fight against many infections as well as heal the problem.
1. Sitz Bath
Taking a sitz bath will make you feel comfortable because it will reduce the irritation and will promote the drainage of the cyst. On the other hand, sitz bath helps in cleaning the area and reduces the risk of infection.
- First fill a bath tub with warm water.
- Mix 2 tbsp of Epsom salt into the water.
- Soak your genital area for 15 minutes in the water.
- Pat dry the area.
- Do this remedy for 3 times a day for a week.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Another remedy is the apple cider vinegar as it has natural acidic property which is good to reduce the size and swelling due to the vaginal cysts. Another benefit of the apple cider vinegar is to maintain the pH level of the vagina and it reduces the risk of infection and prevents you from the vaginal cysts.
- Add 2 tbsp of organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in ½ cup of warm water.
- Soak a cotton ball in this solution then place directly over the cyst for 1 minute. Repeat 4 times daily for few days.
- Optionally, you can mix equal quantities of apple cider vinegar and water and use this solution to help soothe the area or else you can apply coconut oil on the cyst.
- Another option is to pour 1 cup of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a bath tub filled with warm water. Soak your lower body into this water for about 15 minutes. Do this procedure for at least 3 times a day.
- You can also add 1 tsp of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water and drink it two times daily to promote healing.
3. Warm Compress
The easy and simple way to soften up the vaginal cyst is to apply a warm compress as it will encourage the drainage so that it will automatically help in the healing process. Warm compress is also useful to kill the bacteria that are the cause of infection and inflammation.
- Take a wash cloth and soak in hot water then squeeze out the excess water.
- Place the warm cloth on the affected area for few minutes.
- Repeat 4 times a day until the fluid starts draining out of the cyst.
- Make sure that the delicate tissues are not burnt.
4. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil helps in reducing the inflammation and pain related with vaginal cysts. It is good for treating the Bartholin cysts. On the other hand, tea tree oil is powerful in getting rid of the harmful bacteria present in the vaginal wall; it helps in draining the cyst within 2 days.
- Add 3 drops of 100% tea tree oil in 2 tsp of coconut oil. Now use a cotton ball and apply it over the cyst then leave for 20 minutes. After that rinse it off with lukewarm water. Use the remedy two times a day as you need.
- Also, add 5 drops of tea tree oil in a cup of water then use this solution to wash the affected area for few times.
5. Turmeric
Turmeric is also great for the vaginal cysts. A compound called curcumin is present in the turmeric which works as an inflammatory agent that helps fight against the inflammation. In addition, turmeric is the natural antiseptic to prevent from the infection.
- Mix 1 tsp of turmeric powder and some amount of coconut oil in order to make a paste. Apply this paste over the cyst and allow it to sit for some hours. Rinse off the area with lukewarm water and again repeat the process until the cyst bursts.
- You can also drink a glass of hot milk mixed with 1 tsp of turmeric powder to control the pain.
6. Garlic
Garlic has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is useful to treat any kind of vaginal cysts. It kills the bacteria present around the cysts so it helps in reducing the infection. Garlic helps in boosting the immune system to help fight against the infections.
- Apply little bit of crushed garlic on the cyst for about 2 minutes then rinse off with lukewarm water. Do this for 2 times a day.
- Also, you can eat 1 crushed garlic clove 3 times a day mixed in a glass of water. it will help you boosting the immune system.
7. Aspirin
You can also use aspirin to allow the cyst to drain as it has anti-inflammatory property which is helpful in dealing with the pain thus reduce the risk of infection.
- Take few aspirin tablets and crush them in a powder form.
- Mix it in a little water to form a paste. Instead of water, you can also use castor oil.
- Apply this paste on the vaginal cyst.
- Leave it for 5 minutes then wash it off with lukewarm water.
- Do this two times a day.
8. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is very much effective for treating the vaginal cysts. Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties to help reducing the inflammation and pain.
- Extract the fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe vera leaf and apply directly on the cyst. Allow it to set for 20 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat the remedy 4 times a day.
- Alternatively, mix 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel with ¼ tsp of turmeric powder. Stir the mixture to form a paste then apply this mixture on the cyst. Leave it for 30 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this remedy once a day.
9. Yogurt
Another good ingredient to treat the vaginal cyst is the yogurt as it is rich in lactobacillus bacteria which help in restoring the normal pH level of vagina. This stops the growth of the bacteria and infectious organisms. Not only has this but the yogurt is also reduced the vaginal odor as well.
- Take a cotton ball and soak it in the plain yogurt then apply it on the affected area. Leave it for few hours then rinse off the area. Do this 3 times a day.
- Also, you can eat 2 cups of yogurt daily.
10. Sepia
Sepia is the time-tested remedy for vaginal cysts. Sepia is actually made from the dark, brownish-gray pigment obtained from the ink sac of the cuttlefish. Sepia is an effective remedy for fighting inflammation and pain associated with the vaginal cysts. Sepia is available in homeopathic clinics in pellets or liquid form. Additional Tips
- Ask your spouse to be gentle in sex in order to prevent the vaginal cysts.
- Do not squeeze or puncture the cyst and allow it to drain on its own to reduce the risk of infection.
- Keep the area clean by washing it regularly.
- Never douche, it can irritate the cyst.
- Maintain good hygiene habits to prevent infection.
- Increase the vitamin A, vitamin B and zinc intake which helps in promoting the healing of the skin tissues.
- If the doctor recommends you, get a biopsy done to rule out the possibility of cancer.
